Présentation

Alors que la crise financière de 2008 et les multiples scandales financiers ont suscité un regain d’intérêt pour la régulation bancaire – entendue comme un ensemble de règles encadrant les activités des banques -, l’histoire du contrôle – la surveillance des banques et à l’intérieur des banques – a été beaucoup moins explorée, en particulier en ce qui concerne le XIX^e siècle et le contrôle interne. Comment se sont développés les systèmes de contrôle externe et interne, aux échelles nationale et internationale, ainsi que dans les espaces coloniaux ? Ce colloque ambitionne de mettre en perspective l’actuelle « supervision prudentielle », en la replaçant dans une histoire longue et comparative. Il explorera les finalités et les facteurs historiques de la surveillance bancaire, ses institutions et ses acteurs (privés et publics), ses pratiques, et la question de son efficience.
